Imagined Landscape 4 (5" x 7")
“I have decided to find myself a home in the mountains, somewhere high up where one learns to live peacefully in the cold and the silence. It’s said that in such a place certain revelations may be discovered. That what the spirit reaches for may be eventually felt, if not exactly understood. Slowly, no doubt. I’m not talking about a vacation. Of course at the same time I mean to stay exactly where I am. Are you following me?”
― Mary Oliver, A Thousand Mornings
In early March of 2019, I found myself dreaming. My husband and I had a habit of making dinner, lighting a fire, and dragging my easel into the living room so we could be together while I painted.
Feeling inspired by crocus sightings, I imagined a number of landscapes that felt greener than the one outside. Small but vast landscapes with clouds that speak in poems and subtle swaths of color to brighten the cold winter earth.
There is nothing quite like placing a fresh painting on your wall, opening your windows that have been closed all winter, and breathing in clear spring air.
